BASSES INTERNATIONAL "Road To The Sky" ZIVO Records
Basses International began when Wolfgang Melz became a member of my
East Indian / Jazz Fusion orchestra THE COSMIC BROTHERHOOD SITAR BAND.
We started experimenting with the "TWO BASS" concept for the LOS
ANGELES BASS CLUB member meetings at DONTE'S Jazz Club in North
Hollywood, CA, but the project gained momentum when Wolfgang and JIM
KELTNER became GABOR SZABO'S rhythm section recording four of
Wolfgang's Bass compositions.
The Rolling Stones became intrigued with the two bass concept
which led to my introduction and recording on "EXILE ON MAIN STREET".
After our nightly gigs, Keltner, Wolfgang, Jim Szilagyi, Kevin Walsh
and myself would assemble at David Wheat's Studio in Hollywood and
'jam' into the early morning hours these two bass compositions.
Wolfgang began touring with GABOR SZABO and CHARLES LLOYD, I was
touring with the DON ELLIS BIG BAND and recording with TOMMY PELTIER
AND THE JAZZ CORPS.
We got together when in town to have fun and keep the project going,
writing and recording new material.
BASSES INTERNATIONAL performed in the LA QUINTA JAZZ FESTIVAL opening
for STAN GETZ and DIANNE SHUUR, the MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN JAZZ FESTIVAL
with JOE SAMPLE, and the IDYLLWILD JAZZ FESTIVAL.
Through many years of patience and dedication we now present the "ROAD
TO THE SKY" project for your happiness and listening pleasure.
